What we believe and mean when we say Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at El Rio

At El Rio we strive to create and foster a school culture where students, families, staff and teachers from diverse backgrounds, including those of various races/ethnicities, family structures and who are gender-non-conforming are valued and respected. We recognize that we can do more to serve the local Latine and English Language Learner community that surrounds the school and are committed to meeting the goals we set out in our charter to that end. We believe that creating and fostering an inclusive school culture benefits the creativity and success of ALL our students.

OUR STORY

A TK-8 school founded on Core Principles of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education in the heart of Los Angeles.

El Rio Community School is an inclusive, community-based school guided by the core principles of Public Waldorf Education. We strive to educate students who will grow into free-thinking individuals with respect for themselves, their community, and the planet.

Our approach to academics is experiential and hands-on. Curiosity and imagination are fostered through an arts-integrated and developmentally appropriate curriculum that includes music, dance, art, outdoor education, and Mandarin instruction alongside rigorous academics.
